The University of Miami sponsors Fall and Spring Semester Programs in Rome, Italy. Founded in 1991, the Program brings together a select group of students and faculty members for an intensive experience in design, theory, and history of architecture. Course topics include: Design in the Historical Context; Theory of Urban Form; Ancient, Renaissance, Baroque and Modern Architectural History; Drawing as a Means of Architectural Knowledge; and the History of Gardens. Field trips in Italy include Tuscany, the Veneto, Umbria, Lazio, Lombardy, and Sicily. In addition there is a two week travel to other European sites of particular architectural interest. In the past, the Program has coordinated visits to Spain, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Greece, Turkey and Switzerland. The Program is open to students in their Fourth and Fifth Year of studies.
