The University of Massachusetts Amherst offers a Spring semester of Italian Studies in Siena, a remarkably preserved medieval city that is one of the richest cultural and historical centers of Tuscany. Siena lies within easy reach by train or coach of Florence, Pisa, and Rome. Students, who earn 15 credits (equivalent of 5 University of Massachusetts courses) during the semester, take courses at the Universita di Lingua e Cultura Italiana per Stranieri located in the heart of the medieval city.

The Siena Program affords students the opportunity to concentrate on intensive language study (9 credit hours) at the same time that they delve into the world of art history (3 credits) and contemporary history and civilization (3 credits). Students accepted into the program will be placed in language sequences at the appropriate level following placement testing in Siena. Faculty at the University of Massachusetts Amherst organize and oversee the program. An associated professor from the Stranieri, who facilitates local arrangements, is on-site in Siena for the duration of the program.
