The program is open in Fall and Spring sessions, with the possibility to study for one year. The main characteristic of this program is the “full immersion” into the Italian culture through living with an Italian family. Students have everyday contact with the realities of a small community and are able to explore all the richness of cultural, social and extra-curricular activities available in Parma. The program is open to all students. There is no prior requirement of the Italian language. In the beginning there are intensive Italian language classes that enable the students to quickly follow the main course: “Continuity and Change in Contemporary Italy.” Students can also take courses at the University of Parma according to their level of the Italian language. Other aspects of the program are a Community Based Learning Project, where students engage in 60 hours of work at different institutions in Parma and a half-credit course on Italian Renaissance Art in the Po valley.
