FIU’s study abroad in Genoa is based on living in an Italian city with a rich present and a complex history, and without a large US student population. It goes beyond a touristic experience as the students are encouraged to engage with the city (to “live here”) and with the students and faculty of the University of Genoa. Genoa serves as a lens through which to gain a perspective on contemporary issues, whether in the fields of architecture, design and urbanism or the humanities and social sciences.

Genoa is a complex city situated between mountains and sea, bridging old and new, and acting as a threshold between European and Mediterranean worlds. Fascinating and enigmatic, it is a city to discover.
